The Tilery 3.0 and later needs more memory than its predecessor Applicon did, partly because of its many new features, and partly because it will encourage you to have more tiles. The Tilery will usually warn you if memory gets low; if you see the warning, you should quit The Tilery and give it a bigger partition (use the Finder’s Get Info command to set the memory size.) You can also monitor The Tilery’s memory usage by checking the memory display in the lower-right corner of the “About The Tilery” window.
A utility like The Tilery shouldn’t use up any more of your precious memory than it needs. Unfortunately, The Tilery’s memory needs vary greatly depending on whether you have color, what size tiles you use, how many tiles you usually have showing at a time, and other considerations. The suggested memory size of 150K is enough for most people to run The Tilery the first time, check out the on-line help, and set preferences. After that, you may want to shut down The Tilery and change its memory partition.
Some suggested settings:
• 100K: for black & white, small tiles, 6 to 8 tiles at once.
• 120K: 256 colors, large tiles, up to 6 tiles at once.
• 180K: 256 colors, large tiles, 20 to 24 tiles at once.
If you use QuicKeys or other INITs which like to borrow application memory, you may have to give The Tilery extra memory. See the chapter on Conflicts.
